Replacing a Worn Crutch Tip: A Step-by-Step Guide

Worn crutch tips can make it difficult to walk safely and comfortably. Replacing them is a simple process that can be done at home with a few basic tools. is recommended to replace your crutch tips every 3-6 months, or more often if they show signs of wear and tear.

 Materials:

      • Flathead screwdriver
      • New crutch tip
      • Sink with running hot water (optional)

Steps:

1. Remove the old tip:

      • Place the crutch tip on a stable surface.
      • Insert the flathead screwdriver between the rubber tip and the metal shaft of the crutch.Gently pry the tip away from the shaft.
      • Be careful not to damage the metal shaft of the crutch while removing the old tip.
      • If the tip is stuck, you can run the crutch tip under warm water for a few minutes to soften the rubber.

2.  Clean the shaft:  Wipe away any dirt or debris from the metal shaft of the crutch.

3.  Insert the new tip:

      • Align the new tip with the metal shaft.
      • Push the tip firmly onto the shaft until it is secure; a screw-twisting action is helpful.
      • You may need to fully “set” the tip in place by setting the tip on the ground and pushing down on the shaft.

4.Check the fit:

      • Make sure the new tip is snug and not loose.
      • If it is loose, try pushing it on further with a twist/screwing motion

5.Test the crutch:

      • Take a few steps on the crutch to make sure the tip feels secure and comfortable.
      • If the tip feels loose or uncomfortable, repeat the process with a different tip.
